"Ready Set Grow! is a program that from its
beginning has been designed to be the best possible
environment for children, their families and staff,"
said Dr. Judith Bunge, Ph.d., who serves as early
childhood consultant to the center. "Our primary
focus continues to be on developing a supportive learning
environment which addresses children's interests and
needs. By designing a facility and curriculum that
address common childcare concerns such as safety, small
class sizes, well educated teachers, excellent
adult-child ratios and respect for the wellness of each
child, Ready Set Grow! has already established itself as
a leader." The president of Ready Set Grow! Inc.,
Steve Lefkovitz, introduced the design of the physical
facility. "The building and the outside play area by
themselves help us build a better program for the kids. A
superior curriculum and the great folks we have here add
to that." The building, along with its 1-1/2 acres
of adjacent grounds, was specifically planned with
children's development in mind. Most classrooms have
direct access to a playground, and all are bright and
spacious, with thoughtfully planned learning centers.
Safety and security were focused on as well; all
entrances are secured and monitored, every room has
secure communications, and careful lists are kept as to
who is permitted access to the building and grounds. All
playground equipment conforms to national standards of
safety, and the perimeter fence was specially designed
for the safety of young children. Mr. Lefkovitz said that
the only reasonable way for Ready Set Grow! to deal with
these many concerns was to design and build the physical
facility from scratch. "It's not the least expensive
way to start a center, but I'm convinced it's the best.
Childcare centers that started life as warehouses or
storefronts simply can't anticipate a child's needs the
way we can."
Even more important than the facility, Dr. Bunge said, is
RSG's philosophy of education and caregiving for very
young children. This begins with the teachers.
"Parents are the primary influence in a child's
life, but teachers are at the heart of children's
education. So we hire the best, we pay them more, and we
support their continuing education." She said that
RSG teachers are skilled at teaching a whole group of
children while simultaneously responding to each child's
special needs. "Of course, small class sizes help
this process greatly, so our group sizes are well below
the national average." Dr. Bunge said that it is
this philosophy combined with quality early childhood
education and a facility designed with children in mind,
that make RSG an innovative leader in our area. Mr.
Lefkovitz then hinted that Ready Set Grow! may be poised
to replicate itself as a franchise on a state-wide or
national basis. "That wouldn't surprise me," he
said. "We have limited enrollment space and interest
has already been astounding. We might be forced to
expand."
